# Cyclone Dana Updates


Overview: Cyclone Dana is approaching the Odisha coast, expected to make landfall by October 25. Odisha is preparing to evacuate about 10 lakh people from coastal areas, while over 1.14 lakh residents in West Bengal have already been relocated.


Current Status:

- Evacuations: As of Wednesday evening, only 30% of the targeted evacuees in Odisha (about 3-4 lakh) have been moved to safety.

- Wind Speeds: The cyclone has wind speeds reaching up to 120 km/h (75 mph) and is predicted to intensify further.

- Location:** At 8:30 AM Wednesday, Cyclone Dana was located 420 km southeast of Paradip.


Weather Impact:

- Rainfall:** Heavy rainfall is expected in southern West Bengal, including Kolkata, on October 24 and 25.

- **Train Services: Over 170 trains have been canceled on October 24 and 25 due to the cyclone, with more possible cancellations depending on the situation.

- Flight Operations: Flights at Kolkata's airport will be suspended from 6 PM on October 25 until 9 AM on October 26.


Safety Measures:

- School Closures: Schools in several districts of West Bengal and Odisha will remain closed until October 25.

- Rescue Operations: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 56 teams across five states to assist with evacuations and emergencies.


Preparedness:

- The Indian Coast Guard is on high alert, ready to respond to any emergencies at sea.
